White wildflowers

Wildflowers to Wishlists

Posted by Sarah MacMaster on

We’ve had a beautiful spring here at Rylstone Botanicals. Native wildflowers have taken over the paddocks, with Woolly Tea Tree, Fringe Myrtle and Daphne Heath all in full bloom, creating the effect of snow-covered paddocks.

Our Willy Wagtails have had a busy season too. A pair set up a nest on our veranda, scolding me every time I set foot out the door, but they’ve successfully raised their chicks — I witnessed the maiden flight just yesterday. I’ll miss their chittit-chittit-chittit call once they’ve gone, and the sight of them hopping about the garden with tails wagging, warning me to keep my distance.

We’ve been busy in the paddocks too, planting more lavender, rosemary and kunzea to keep up with growing demand for our essential oil products. Between the weeding, mulching, fertilising and mowing, it’s been an exhausting few weeks — but the bulk of the hard work is now done, and we’re hoping for good follow-up rain through the rest of spring to give these new plants the best possible start.

As spring turns to summer, our thoughts are already turning to lavender harvest. But before the flowers are picked, we get a precious month or so of simply enjoying them on the plant — it’s only once they’ve fully opened and started to dry off that we know they’re ready. Nature decides when that will be, not us, so let’s hope it’s not Christmas Day!

Speaking of Christmas — it’s time to think gifts. Orders are already rolling in, and this week we’re launching our new gift box range. Each of our four sets features our best-selling products, with the choice of two or three items per box, and every gift set now comes with free gift packaging, ready to hand straight to that special friend, family member or colleague. They won’t last long, so be quick to secure yours before they sell out!

Our list of guest accommodation stockists is growing rapidly, and you can now book directly through the stockists page on our website — they’re truly special destinations, each well worth a visit. And if you know of a regional guest house you think would love our products, we’d be grateful if you’d mention us — word of mouth means the world to a small, regional business like ours.

Wherever you are, and however busy life gets this season, we hope you can find a moment to stop and breathe in the bush — where the scent of crushed eucalyptus and honeyed blossom reminds us that peace isn’t found in the destination, but in the natural environment that surrounds us.
